Second Annual Trucking Leadership Symposium held 6/14/2012 at Four Seasons Lumiere, St. Louis MO

June 14th the was the date of the second annual Trucking Leadership Symposium held in St. Louis Missouri. Last year was such a success Roberts Perryman and the Missouri Trucking Association partnered to offer the event again.

This year the event was kicked-off by, Governor Bill Graves, CEO and President of the American Trucking Association, with his ‘Washington Update’. As a Washington insider Governor Graves was able to give his constituents a real look at what has been going on in D.C., as well as his thoughts on the upcoming election.

Another popular topic was the panel on ‘Driver Shortage, Recruitment and Image’. Gary Salisbury of Fikes Trucking, Greg Hodgen of Groendyke Trucking and Aaron Tennant of Tennant Truck Lines manned the panel. All three participants are highly regarded for their thought leadership in the arena of driver shortage. With shortage already a factor in the trucking industry, coupled with upcoming FMCSA rules, this issue is regarded as urgent. All three panelists gave real life examples and beneficial suggestions for helping fellow companies combat and remedy driver shortage.

Jan Markison of Great West Casualty Company presented on the topic of ‘Driver Risk and Underwriting’.

Brad Young of Roberts Perryman addressed issues with Workers’ Comp in Missouri and Illinois. Workers’ Compensation is always a favorite subject for participants to ask questions about. Mr. Young did an outstanding job of engaging the audience and knowledgably addressing their concerns.

Next was the ‘Roundtable of State and Federal Law Enforcement’. Dan Meyer of the FMCSA, Captain Londell Jamerson of the Missouri CMV Unit, and Master Sargeant Todd Armstrong of the Illinois CMV Unit were on hand to cover issues on the minds of truck company executives.

Last but certainly not least was Ted Perryman’s ‘Jury of Our Peers: Inside a Trucking Case’. This interactive presentation utilizes real video footage of a jury focus group deliberating a case. Surprising, insightful and sometimes making audience members visible frustrated, this inside look at how a case can be decided was hands down well-received by the attendees. Many questions were asked and many opinions were given.
