Trucking Leadership Symposium, June 8th, Busch Stadium

On June 8th Roberts Perryman partnered with Great West Casualty Company to offer the first ever Trucking Leadership Symposium at Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis. Over 150 attendees were present. The topics included Employment and Owner/Operator Issues, Latest Information on CSA, State (MO, IL, KS) Legislative Luncheon, Roundtable of State & Federal Law Enforcement Officials, Succession Planning Best Practices and an Economic Update.

The feedback received from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive. From trucking company CEO’s to Safety Director’s to VP’s of Operations, the information touched on relevant issues across disciplines and departments. Additionally, the presenters received kudos for keeping the audiences’ attention and keeping the floor open to questions and the topics staying in-line with real life situations.

As a fun closing to a long day of information, tours were offered of Busch Stadium. The folks participating in the tours (Cardinal fans from many states!) commented on how well informed the tour guides were and what a unique perspective it was to be on the field while the stands were empty. One attendee’s observation was “an added bonus to a day well-spent”.

Roberts Perryman’s Chairman, Ted Perryman, spoke on the current hot topics in Employment and Owner/Operator Issues. Ted received quite a bit of questions and correspondence post-symposium. As a result, Ted commented, “Obviously the employee vs. contractor issue is churning and burning in the mind of trucking execs. After the symposium, and the great amount of feedback and questions I fielded, I decided to put together a guide on misclassification for my friends in the trucking industry.”

The latest in a series of guides the attorneys at Roberts Perryman has authored for the trucking industry, ‘Misclassification: Employee or Independent Contractor?’ will be available about mid-July.
